Sir Science – Online

Science Online – A new SIR Branch 8 activity approved Monday (Nov 14) in the BEC.As a long-time member of the scientific honorary Sigma Xi, I receive a daily email covering scientific advances in worldwide English language scientific publications. For the last year, I have been forwarding the links to the SIR Astronomy members – one article per day that as an earth scientist I find interesting and significant. I have included illustrated links to three typical articles below.

But I am thinking that there may be a wider audience in Branch 8 for science articles, beyond the astronomy Activity membership. The articles are just a few screens in length, and most include links to other interesting articles on the same subject. Importantly, all have been “down-edited” by SigmaXi editors to the common English that we can all readily understand. Subjects are varied and include geology, oceanography, climate, biology, chemistry, physics, and even agricultural science. I sometimes add comments, and invite members’ comments which I then distribute to the activity members.

FYI, when I forward a link, the activity email addresses are pasted only into the BCC line to avoid scammer intrusion. Sigma Xi is over a century old and is a safe site. In three years of SIRAstronomy and a year of SIR Science emails, there have been no intrusions. If you would like to give it a try and be added to the Science Online Activity email list, please send me your email address. Of course, you can drop participation just as easily if you find you are no longer interested.
