Cribbage

The Cribbage Activity meets on the 1st Wednesday and 3rd Tuesday of each month. We play at Rocco’s Pizzeria at 2909 Ygnacio Valley Rd in Walnut Creek. Social hour/lunch at noon and play is from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Please join us if you have played or wish to learn. Depending on attendance we play two, three or four person games. We normally get in five games in the two and 1/2 hours we play. Our members prefer to play four person games, which is two partners with the two winners advancing to the next table. Cribbage is a fun, friendly, fast-paced game.

Cribbage is a coed activity with spouses and partners welcomed. In addition, if you are introducing a potential new member to SIR bring them as a guest to a game you enjoy!

October 2025

Our first games of the month had twelve players giving us three tables of four, which is ideal from the membership’s perspective as the two partners both get the winning score, making for higher scores. This set of games was more the norm with the top scores of 201 and 193. Second place of 193 was a tie between Terry Baldwin and Rod Spicer, with Terry bowing to Rod for second, which gave Rod three consecutive second place finishes! Stan Johnson reported high hands of both 21 and 24 but also noted neither helped him win those games.

We did have a thirteen player, Eric Moss. Eric had a 1pm conflict and could not stay, but he did play one game and handily defeated Dennis. Eric claims to be rusty but clearly, he will be a force at the cribbage tables! October 1st winners were:

1st    Bob Beitler                 201 points

2nd   Rod Spicer                193 points

3rd   Terry Baldwin            193 points

4th    Ken Moeller               183 points

The second session of the month was Tuesday, October 21st. With fourteen players we enjoyed three tables, three four-person partner games, and a fourth table for a two-player game. Dino Papathemetrios had a 20 hand! Tuesday’s winners were:

1st    Dave Dawson            209 points

2nd   Bob Beitler                 171 points

3rd   Dennis Mierzwa         161 points

4th    Terry Mason              152 points, tied also at 152 was Ray de Wit

2025 High Score, Don Atwater 327 points

2024- High Score, Bob Beitler 261 points

Our next scheduled games are on Wednesday November 1st, bring a friend!

September 2025

Our first games of the month had thirteen players giving us two tables of four, a table of three and a table of two. This set of games was unusual because the top scorers were in the low 100’s when we normally see a high score in the 200’s.

1st Dennis Mierzwa 134 points
2nd Rod Spicer 119points
3rd Stan Johnson 114 points

Our newest player, Ken Moeller, reported a 24 hand, but also reported his 24 and did not help him to win that game!

The second session of the month was Tuesday, September 16th. Two of our regular attendees had a touch of Covid, leaving us with thirteen players with the help of guest, Alex Borders. Alex also came in third with 144 points.

3rd   Dennis Mierzwa         182 points

2nd   Don Atwater              199 points

3rd   Terry Mason              190 points

4th    Dave Dawson            183 points

The second session of the month was Tuesday, June 17th, with 11 players giving us two tables of four for partner play and a table of three. While two player games are played at about the same speed as four players, our three player games take longer and start at 60 to try to keep the finish about the same as a four-player game. Scores were lower on the 17th except for our four top finishers as two players, myself included, finished with zero scores/no wins.

1st    Greg Ryan                 206 points

2nd   Steve Monksfield       193 points

3rd   Stan Johnson            141 points

4th    Dan Smith                 126 points

As seen in the list of June winners above Greg Ryan won both June sessions. Being the winner twice in a row is rarel in Branch 8 cribbage, but Greg also won the two May sessions giving him four consecutive first place finishes! Congratulations Greg!

2025 High Score, Don Atwater 312 points

2024- High Score, Bob Beitler 261 points
