Model Railroading

This is a new Branch 8 Activity!

Over fifteen (15) members indicated their interest in the activity based on a review of table interest cards  submitted at the January luncheon. A great initial response!  Recently we received some great news! Thanks to the generosity of one of our members, we will shortly have  a space to begin construction of a model train layout!  Sir Al Steunenberg has offered an approximate 8′ x 28′  space in his home garage!  The space comes with tools and a workbench and is well lighted.  Thanks, Al!  We are considering an HO-scale layout that is portable and perhaps building modular layouts.  Our next step  will be to select a layout design and begin the process of construction.  If you have any suggestions for a layout  (or have experience in the design/construction of layouts) please contact the Activity Chair.

Winter’s here!  We’ll continue to take a break from our model train layout design and construction for the time being.  Please stay tuned for future announcements on the direction of the group.   There will be an exciting project for us to assist with in 2017!  Watch the Hotline for details.

Instead, members of the Model Railroading Activity are encouraged to visit one or several of the many existing Train Club layouts in the Bay Area.  Over the next few months, please consider visiting:  The Golden State Model Railroad Museum in Point Richmond (www.gsmrm.org); the Carquinez Model Railroad Society in Crockett (www.cmrstrainclub.org); and the San Leandro Historical Railway Society in San Leandro (www.slhrs.org).   Please check websites for open house events.

Future Events:  If you would like to be added to the Model Railroading e-mail list, please advise the  Activity Chairman.
